Catie Lehman, author of What’s Your Love Shape, used to be a preschool teacher at a reggio-emilia school in Los Angeles. She saw that her 4-5 year-old students had a deep capacity to understand complex emotional topics and have very inspirational conversations from books that focused on emotional intelligence.
She wanted to create her own book that focused on emotional intelligence, sparked interesting conversation, and also summarized her experience meeting people from all over the world while living abroad.
What’s Your Love Shape explores how everyone shows and feels loved in different ways. Depicting this complex concept through shapes makes it easy for children to understand and relate to.
Some emotional intelligence concepts covered in this book include self-awareness (understanding one’s own love shape), social awareness (understanding other peoples’ love shapes), and perspective taking (understanding others might have a different love shape than their own).
